Cake & Shake

I went to Washington Square Park in NYC this weekend.  It was beatiful, people were playing chess games,  piano, guitar, and they were even in bathing suites sunbathing.  I guess that’s what you have to do in NYC because there aren’t really any beaches like on Long Island.  Also, what was really cool was that since it was so hot out, people were using the water fountain as a pool.  I thought that was really cool to watch, and i wanted to go in but i didn’t, next time.  As i was leaving the park i saw this thing that resembled an ice cream truck but it wasn’t it was called Cake & Shake. Cake & Shake is a new neat little invention that i had to share with all of you.  You can get an ice coffee or an ice tea for just $2, a shake for $5 which come in unique cool flavors.  It was so hard for me to make a decision as to what flavor to try because they all looked equally enticing. I ended up making a great decision, the huckleberry which is blueberry and it’s delicious. Cake & Shake offers 20 Cupcake flavors and 8 Shake flavors!  They  feature 5 Cupcakes and 3 Shakes daily which rotate often on our carts.   They first opened in June of this year and they are doing so well that they are going to open up there second location at the MET on September 2, 2010, and at the MET Cart,  they will offer 2 Savory Cake options per day.  You have to check this place out next time your in Washington Square Park or at the MET.  For now take a look at there menu and imagine the how yummy there cupcakes taste and how refreshing their milkshakes are. Did i mention there organic too! It’s awesome. Goodbye ice cream man, hello Cake & Shake !!

The Hills vs The City

The Hills and The City were definitely my favorites on television. I can’t believe that they are over. I am so upset. I mean does any one else feel my pain? What can replace this show? Is this how it felt when Beverly Hills 90210 ended?  I feel like I know the people on this show. I think I am going to miss The City more. Which one will you miss more? Why am i going to miss The City more? I think I can identify with The City more because it is a show about work place drama rather than relationship drama.  I am interested in what goes on in the work place because I am at a point in my life where a career is ready to set in. What I want to do with the rest of my life is a question I have been rocking with recently. I am sure that many of you out there can relate to this dilemma.  What also got me excited was Whitney’s final moment in Washington Square park with Stacey is unbelievable. I mean just as her career is about to take off she’s going to make one of the toughest decisions ever.  Decisions decisions! Will she join Alison Brod and leave Kelly? I think that she should stay with Kelly. What do you think she will do?

How much does it cost to get your nails done?

I  was interested in getting nails put on, specifically the UV Gel Permanent French. It’s very expensive compared to the regular powder acrylic nails. I am a the type of girl that likes to get the best deal so I had to call every nail salon in my surrounding area to find the best price. I listed the results so that you can get the best deal too.

UV Gel Nails vs Acrylic Nails?

UV Gel Nails-They put the tip on and they take gel and paint it on your nails, and it strengthens, last longer, and its more shinny.  Also when your getting it done you don’t need as much filing and you don’t have their is no smell to the gel. The only negative thing is when taking it off you have to file it down, and if you break a nail it’s hard to fix it yourself.

Acrylic nails are seen more than gel nails, but they have been around longer. Acrylics are either whole or partial, used over the entire nail or simply as tips. A mixture of liquid acrylic (monomer) and polymer, which is an acrylic powder, is applied to the nail and hardens quick.

The Best Nail Polish Ever

I am so excited to share with you my experience at the nail salon. I go to the nail salon and get manicures on my natural nails. OPI, which is a brand of nail polish, the best brand if i may say, came out with a new polish. It is called the OPI soak off gel.  It is a high gloss UV gel manicure that can last 2 weeks. It comes in many different colors. The gel is painted on your nails and then you put your hands under the UV light for it to dry for only 3 minutes. They are so dry in just 3 minutes that the manicurist put lotion on my hands and even wiped the nail with some special type of water. Usually they do that before they polish your nails.  The nail gel makes your nails hard, and extra glossy.  The best part is that it last for two weeks. Normal manicures barely last 2 days.

How much does it cost?

Sun’s Nails on Deer Park Ave does it for $25.00

Normal manicures cost $7.00, but you have to go every week.  I think this is a good deal. $20 would have been my ideal price to pay, but I love it so much it’s worth the extra five bucks. I did hear that some nail salon’s are offering it for $20, but Sun’s Nails is a really amazing experience. Every time I go there I always leave with a smile. They are actually closing their location and moving to open two stores, Sun’s Spa and Sun’s nails. The stores are located in the same shopping center they are currently located in.  This just proves how well they are doing. I am excited to see there new store which should open up in the next month or so.

The Green Movement

You have probably heard the term “going green” a million and one times. Why are people so hyped up about it and why do some people not care at all?  If you are hyped up you know that by taking the necessary extra steps to make your home more energy efficient, you are not only “saving” the environment, you are saving money.  Those who do not care at all probably have a hard time looking into the future. Those of us that understand the necessity of going green, understand the effects that if we don’t start changing the way we do things, the planet is going to suffer. Look at California. They are the most innovative when it comes to going green. Why? Because they have suffered the most. With forest fires, pollution, and all the smog, the effects are direct, and therefore the governor is pushing change. In New York in order to change, we do need the state government to support the green movement by offering financing solutions and tax credits. And they are, they do offer some great incentives right now and they are working on getting more. But I feel like it is each individuals personal responsibility to change there home to be green. No one is going to come in your home and make your home more energy efficient.  You have to educate yourself and go out there and make the changes yourself, and then tell your neighbors. This is how the green movement will move.

New York State released a program to help people who want to make improvements on their homes the green way. Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) is a program that allows homeowners to borrow money to pay for energy improvements. For more information about the specifics  you can visit the database of state incentives for renewables and efficiency.  If you live in the town of Babylon and you are looking to go green, your in luck. There are a lot of incentives that are coming through the town of Babylon. The town offers seminars monthly to teach your about the different incentives and programs they have to offer.  For more information you can check out this website, long island green homes.

What are you doing to make your home energy efficient?

Do you know Trader Joe?

Trader Joe’s! It’s is a private grocery store and It’s uniquely fabulous!
How did it all start?
Joe Coulombe founded trader Joe’s in the year 1958 in the Greater Los Angeles area. Since then they have grown and now there are 319 stores, as of March 2009.
Interesting fact about their products:
Their products include food and beverages, basics like milk, bread, and butter, to more exotic fare like imported cheeses, organic produce, vegetarian foods, unusual frozen foods, imported wine and beer, and hand-tossed pizza. They also have non-food items which include personal hygiene products, household cleaners, vitamins, pet food, plants, and flowers.
At Trader Joe’s you’ll find a lot of unconventional and interesting products. They buy products that they think are winners for their customers. Sometimes they buy products that they intent to stock as well as sell, and other times they buy a product which is in limited supply, sell through it, and you won’t find it again.
Is it expensive?
There are no coupons, no membership cards, and no discounts. You won’t find any promotions or coupons in the store. Instead of having coupons they say they don’t need them because their prices are already low.
Where are they at?
Trader Joe’s is located in Northern and Southern California, with the highest number of stores being in Southern California. They are also located in Delaware, Pennsylvania, District of Columbia, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Missouri, New Mexico, Oregon, Ohio, Washington, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

Do you take Visa?

The question is, who doesn’t take visa? I was in complete shock yesterday when I was riding in a taxi cab in NYC, and saw a credit card machine! Now when the mini T.V.’s where installed in every taxi cab, I thought that was extreme. Credit card machines! What’s next? A vending machine? Video games? I don’t think that taxi cab drivers are too happy about the new machines because this could mean less tip, or even no tip. As a consumer my opinion is that yes it is more convenient since I rarely have cash on me. On the other hand, it’s a taxi cab and it really doesn’t need to have a credit card machine in it. What do you think about this?
